Traditional lime slaking is performed in slaking pits by periodical intermixing and bubble aeration, as well as in slaking bowls allowing to
break underburned pieces, stones and other foreign substances, which improves the efficiency of lime slaking. The speed of slaking is rather slow and
the process requires high energy expenditures on intermixing and crushing. Thus, the quality leaves much to be desired. Underburned or overburned pieces,
or foreign substances in powder, or lump lime causes settling of sediment at slaking in slaking pits.
We offer a new non-waste and non-energy-consumption technology of lime slaking with the use of VLA
(see the scheme). The powerful impact of cavitation processes, magnetostriction and grinding
media on the lime milk allows to crush particles, including underburned or overburned pieces.
This sufficiently increases the surface area of suspended particles and activates their surface for the contact with water stimulating the slaking
reaction. In this case it is possible to refuse using of slaking pits and improve the quality of slaking.
An analogue of the plant is mounted and used in one of the liming factories in Astrakhan.
